[Wexler, Louis, Peter, Ray, and Egon all watch the prosecuting attorney being carried by one of the Scoleri brothers outside the courtroom] Judge Wexler: [wailing] Ohhh. . . Dr. Peter Venkman: You're next, bubbles. Judge Wexler: [screams] ALL RIGHT! ALL RIGHT! I rescind the order! Case dismissed! Louis Tully: Hooray, we won the case! Judge Wexler: Now do something!
— Ghostbusters II, 1989Yesterday I had the opportunity to be an exhibitor at this year’s LevelUp Showcase. I was there showing off the game Shifting Perspective, which I have been working on as a developer since January in collaboration with students from OCAD University and the University of Toronto Music Department, as well as fellow Computer Science students. This was part of the course CSC404 (Introduction to Video Game Design), instructed by Professor Steve Engels.
Shifting Perspective is a Puzzle-Platformer, Adventure game where the player and their faithful fairy companion Ceru must use their magic to progress through increasingly difficult levels of a castle via manipulation of perspective - both in terms of camera viewpoint and of the castle interior itself.
Development began at a Game Jam on January 20th, 2024, where we created an initial prototype for the level rotation mechanics. In the months since we have been hard at work in Unity, and yesterday we released Version 1.1 of the game, with Version 1.2 to be released next week. Click here to read through our Devlog tracking our development process leading up to the official release!
This has been a great experience, though of course we faced struggles that we managed to overcome. It was amazing to see people playing our game yesterday and hearing their thoughts, and I just want to say thank you to the whole team again for your hard work.
